Law Blogger’s Application

Through gun shots, arson, knives, or poison; many crooked natured people venture out looking for trouble. Parents, kids, friends and neighbors can often fall victim to these types of people. Planned out or chosen from random, these people leave behind loved ones wondering what happened. The cold blooded killers often get sent to wait it out on death row while family and friends suffer, waiting to see what happens next.

Yes, there are a few good things about the death penalty. For example, there is less fear of these people ever getting out again to cause more pain and heartbreak. With them gone for good people feel as if the streets are safer. But would a life sentence not do the same? Being sentenced to life without parole should seem to be the same as a death sentence just without the death. Living in jail is not something anyone would chose for him or herself, but neither is being put to death. That is why life without parole is a good alternative to the death sentence.

Almost everything revolves around money. The taxpayers provide for the men and women who are in jail. A lot of them get fed up with their tax dollars going to the people that most consider to be bad people. Thinking that having the death sentence enforced is going to save money is way off track. In reality, because of how long an individual is on death row, it is actually more expensive to have an inmate killed than it is to be kept alive. Yes they have to eat and take up space, but they do the same thing while waiting for the verdict and the final decision on death row. Plus paying to have them ‘put down’ is costly in itself.

Getting rid of bad guys is good, right? By getting rid of them they have to be gone for good, right? Well that is what a lot of people think. The death sentence really helps fix this problem that people see. But what happens if an innocent person is convicted of a violent crime? The way technology and science is improving, convicted and innocent people could get the chance to be set free. However they would not be able to get their life back if they had it taken away from them first. Nobody likes to make mistakes, but this mistake is just one that people can’t afford to make, especially when ones life is on the line.

Keeping the death penalty is a dangerous and pricy thing. Instead, it would smarter to instead use life without parole as an alternative. Some people may not agree, but how many times does everyone agree on one thing? This may not fix all of the problems, but maybe it is time to try something new.
